Let’s face it; long distance flights are rarely fun. The uncomfortable seats, tiny bathrooms, and mediocre in-flight meals all add to the dreaded experience. But it doesn’t have to be all bad! We’ve put together a list of travel hacks that will make your traveling experience that much better. That way, you’ll be well rested for another adventure on the road! Read on for our insider tips and tricks to use on your next flight to Europe!

1. Invest in a pair or earplugs/soundproof headphones and an eye mask

Trust us on this one. A pair of good earplugs/headphones and an eye mask will help make your flight way more comfortable (especially when you’re sitting next to a crying baby or an exceptionally talkative seat-mate). Also, eye masks are great for blocking out the light and helping you get a bit more shuteye.

2. Stay hydrated

Drink lots of water before, during, and after your flight to prevent jet lag. When flying, humidity decreases, which can also lead to dehydration. Avoid drinking alcohol and caffeine and opt for some H20 instead (you’ll thank us later).

3. Pack healthy snacks

In-flight meals ond long distance flights are typically very high in sodium. Even out all that salt with some healthy snacks. Foods such as nuts, trail mix, granola bars, dried fruit, and dark chocolate are the perfect travel companions for a long flight and will curb those cravings!

4. Keep moving!

Sitting for too long is unhealthy and can cause DVT (deep vein thrombosis). Get up and stretch your legs every hour or so to keep your circulation moving and avoid blood clots.

5. Wear a scarf

Scarves are one of the best travel accessories. They not only keep you warm, but can also double as a blanket or makeshift pillow during your flight.

6. Don’t forget your reading materials

Bring along a Kindle, book, and/or magazine. Reading is a great way to pass the time and keep your mind occupied during those long hours.

7. Toiletry essentials to pack in your carry-on

Toiletries are essential for long distance flights. But what to bring? We’ve gathered a list of essentials that every traveler should bring along!

*Make sure all liquids are 100 milliliters or less!

  • Travel toothbrush/toothpaste
  • Lip balm/travel size hand lotion (the lack of humidity will dry out your skin)
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Deodorant
  • Eye drops (to avoid dry eyes)
  • Tissues

BONUS TIP: Always choose a pair of easy on/off shoes when traveling. This will make the security check go more smoothly and allow you to kick off your shoes easily on long flights.

We hope these tips will help make your next overseas flight a little easier! If you have any traveling tips/tricks of your own, feel free to share with us in the comments!
